Technique ultimately allows for depth of expression. Developing a fine piano technique gives the performer every possible velocity, and duration to play a note. Not only that, but they have complete control of rhythmic possibilities. Its imperative that a pianist develops the technique in the first few years so they will not have to back track and make up for their lack of dynamic control later. That would mean hours of practice without the sensitivity that lends itself to musical growth.
